FAQ ORAL HEALTH GUM THERAPY

ORAL HEALTH FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • More information is available at www.perio.org
  • Select  patient resources

WHAT IS THE TREATMENT?  The treatment is painless specialised cleaning.

  •   You will be numb ( special numbing cream or very tiny injections)
  •   YOUR GUMS WILL NOT NEED CUTTING [as some people might think], The treatment is non-surgical
  •   Ultrasound cleaning tools  remove the hardened germs under and around your gums.
  • a spray of bicarb soda may be used to deep clean under the gums.......

WHY DO I NEED ANTIBIOTICS SOMETIMES?

  • Antibiotics are needed sometimes because the germs are not only in your gum but may have ALSO penetrated into your jaw bones.
  • Please start the antibiotics 1 day before your 2  Intensive Treatment therapy appointments.
  • OR AS REQUESTED BY DR FABRE

I have had my consultation
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

  • commence your Home Care as explained at the consultation visit using the recommended

toothbrush, Curasept Gel or Toothpaste and Piksters.

  • arrange 3   1 hour visits
  • you will need 2 treatment visits close to one another for the Initial Treatment
  • then a follow up visit 6 to 8 weeks later
  • for a review to check healing and trouble shoot and some minor therapy.

PLEASE EAT BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT –

  • you will be numb afterward.
  • There will be no surgery
  • THE TREATMENT IS NON SURGICAL AND MINIMALLY INVASIVE
  • After four [4] months return for maintenance therapy and review
  • maintenance needs will be determined at this visit [approximately every 4 monthly or as your healing requires].
  • Home Care is the cornerstone of successful treatment please commence home care straight away and continue  ongoing

HOW OFTEN DO I NEED THIS TREATMENT?
The aim is you wont need intensive treatment again but relapses may occur for many reasons
The main reason for relapse is not adhering to  simple daily home care advice and having check ups
The Cornerstone of oral health is following home care advice and attending for regular professional checks and maintenance therapy as advised

·

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY MAINTENANCE THERAPY?

  • Well, let’s just think of the mouth as like a garden............Gardens have to be maintained or the weeds will return (even the Queens garden).
  • So keep up your gardening :) with the recommended brush, Curasept product and Piksters as advised.
  • Plan a visit with the professional gardener :) to reach areas out of your reach and check the healing and health of your mouth and do some measurements when needed.
  • Your mouth will stay very healthy which is good for your general health.

WHICH CURASEPT PRODUCT DO I USE ?

*  There is CURASEPT GEL ADS 350 GEL & CURASEPT ADS705 TOOTHPASTE

*  The GEL is normally used for the a while (to be advised,) after that the 705 toothpaste is ongoing unless otherwise advised

HOW do I use Curasept ?

*  Use fingernail sized amount of CURASEPT very economical J

*  Brush the gums and teeth firmly and vigorously. Remember how this was demonstrated in your mouth J

*  Use Pickster between your teeth with Curasept on it

*  Spit out excess BUT DO NOT RINSE. Unless there is a lot of blood

*  Then reapply the Curasept product around your gums.

*  Remember to wipe Curasept under your dentures before putting them in all day freshness

PLEASE DO NOT USE NORMAL COMMERCIAL TOOTHPASTE OR MOUTH RINSES BECAUSE THEY REDUCE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE CURASEPT PRODUCT LLL.

Please follow the recommendations and you may be able to return to your favourite toothpaste & rinse at a later stage.
