Gum Disease Explained #1

Gum disease explained

Gingivitis and periodontitis are both forms of gum disease that affect the gums and jawbone. Gingivitis, a surface infection of the gums, can develop in as little as 21 days in a healthy mouth if you stop flossing or brushing. Fortunately, gingivitis can be fully healed with proper home care and support from a dentist. On the other hand, periodontitis is a more serious and chronic condition that leads to permanent loss of jawbone, causing teeth to loosen and potentially fall out. This advanced stage of gum disease takes about 4 months to develop and necessitates ongoing professional support tailored to your specific needs and diagnosis. Periodontitis is characterized as a slow, festering infection that can also affect other parts of your body.
